It has truly been an honor to work with JP and learn from him. In 2018, I knew nothing about production or ableton. After taking the ableton live class with JP, I left with so much knowledge and skills. JP taught me everything I know about production and I am so appreciative for that.

He has helped me develop and grow as an artist and I can’t wait to see where this all takes me!
JP is a wonderful teacher and mentor, and anyone that gets to work with him or learn from him is so so lucky!!

James Patrick has been my teacher since 2012. This mentorship took root as a desire to learn how to master Ableton and sound design, but has grown into something far more fulfilling. After graduating a few programs from Slam Academy, I began TAing for him and ignited a new passion for teaching others. That passion has blossomed, and I now find myself an integral part of the instructor squad at Slam. Aside from guiding me in both music and teaching ability, JP has imparted wisdom from many facets of life; and I’ve seen him do this with countless others. He is a one-of-a-kind teacher who extends his knowledge through his heart. He cares deeply about the progress of his students and school, and that care is immediately noticeable once you walk into our doors. There is nobody I would rather have as a mentor through my musical journey.

I can honestly say that I would not be where I am today without JP and Slam Academy. The amount I have learned as a music producer in such a relatively short time still blows my mind. I can really break my path as a producer into distinct parts. One before I joined Slam and the other after. The difference is night and day.
Forever grateful for the Slam community and everything it does to foster growth and friendship.

I vividly remember the day in May 2017 I went to Slam Academy to find out about the Introduction to Ableton class. I wanted to be able to make music to go with the words I was writing. I was starting from scratch because I had no prior knowledge. I told JP about my goals, he listened, he smiled, and then he told me he could definitely help. I started that class two weeks later and I’ve been learning from him ever since. He has helped me develop a nascent talent into a body of work that is currently approaching 100 tracks. He is always able to adjust our lessons based on what I need to learn next. His mentoring has tremendously accelerated my learning and skills. He is always able to help me make a sound or a track better because of his knowledge, creativity, tenacity, flexibility and availability. If you are serious about getting really good at your craft, work with JP, you won’t ever regret it.

There is nothing like having someone notice your light, your gift that you have to offer the world. Even if your gift isn’t polished, or your flame is very small. Being able to have someone not only notice it, but willing to guide you. To help you find your voice and your sound. That is what it’s studying under JP. Not only does he have a really crazy ear for music, he’s in it, drinks it, spits its back up, and plays with music. As an artist sometimes you get caught up in work. You forget what it is to play with music and fall in love with it again. He is not afraid to get weird or try something new. If something is out of his element, he will set you up with resources or connections. Helping you to become a better you!

James Patrick is an amazing mentor.

One on one mentoring sessions with him have been quite helpful for me.

He always answers all of my questions and provides great insight on all subjects from sound design to music production.
Having access to his knowledge has allowed me to explore creativity past my limits and made the whole experience worthwhile.

My first interaction with JP was something warm and welcoming to say the least – he had made a connection on our shared name “Patrick” as he introduced himself and said hello. This made me feel truly comfortable in a setting that I was unfamiliar with, and riddled with social angst. At that moment I felt ease, and was comfortable to dive deep into the world of Ableton! Continuously blown away from the content JP was serving each and every week I couldn’t believe the detail this human being had, and the ability to apply it and teach it. Every class was also packed full of wit & humor – which kept me constantly engaged in material that is sometimes really difficult to comprehend and stay focused on based on its dense technical nature. Slam Academy changed my life – my outlook – shaped my knowledge and ability to apply techniques and processes to arranging, mixing, processing, and designing sound. I am forever grateful for in depth learning experience taught by Mr. James Patrick.
